None of Thursday’s scheduled State Qualifying Track & Field Coed Meets were held in Iowa yesterday, so all four classes will try again today. Greene County joins 11 other schools, many from our listening area, in a Class 2A meet in Panora hosted by Panorama. Today’s forecast is for temperatures close to 60 degrees and possibly less wind than yesterday.
Class 2A automatically qualifies the first and second place finishers in each event for the State Coed Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines May 16-17-18. The rest of the field of 24 in each event is filled by the eight best performances statewide that finish third or lower today.
Action in Panora begins at 4:30 p.m. with field events and running events starting at 5 p.m. That’s 30 minutes later than the original start time.
Paton-Churdan goes north to Emmet County for a 1A qualifying meet hosted by Armstrong-Ringstead. In 1A, only the champion automatically qualifies for State with the 12 best performances that were second or lower filling out the rest of the field.
