Now that it is summer, there are more people outside walking, bicycling and using motor vehicles. With those increased activities, it’s also a good time to review some safety tips.

Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse encourages everyone to be more vigilant when traveling in motor vehicles by paying closer attention to the increased number of kids who are out enjoying the warmer weather.

“We have to be going a speed where we can get stopped. And we have to be paying extra attention by the swimming pools, the ball fields, those areas of town that we know we’re going to encounter more kids out. So we just have to prepare ourselves for that and have a great, safe summer and get them back to school this fall.”

Clouse points out skateboarding activities have also increased. He says areas where skateboarding is not allowed are places like the Greene County Courthouse grounds, any Greene County School District property, as well as the post office. However, he notes that there is a skateboard park on East Lincoln Way and skateboards are permitted on sidewalks.
