The Minburn Sesquicentennial Celebration has been gathering momentum since rolling out on Tuesday, and the festivities continue tomorrow evening.

The theme for the event is “Rollin’ Home,” in honor of the “Singing Wheels” show that ran from 1950-1963, and most of the activities during the weekend have something to do with roller skating. Tomorrow’s festivities will be held at the skating rink at Meek Park, starting with ice cream and homemade pie at 4 p.m. That will be followed by a meatball dinner at 5, and the evening will wrap up with a concert featuring the local band Rukkus. The events will then continue Saturday before concluding Sunday morning.

Minburn Sesquicentennial committee member Teresa Bailey says they wanted to pull out all the stops in making the celebration as big as possible, which is why they decided to link it with the annual Fourth of July event. “We look at it, there’s a lot of people that are going to come into town for the Fourth. For the people and families, relatives that are coming and maybe staying through the weekend, we wanted to extend that time and have events that would run clear through the weekend. So there’s entertainment for everyone, including children.”
