Current animal shelter in Jefferson

A sizeable donation was recently made to the Greene County Animal Facility project fund.

Rippey Wind Energy donated $1,000 toward the $1.1 million project to build a new animal facility in Jefferson. RWE has previously donated to other local projects and groups including the Friends of Rippey for their project of improving the City’s baseball field. Animal Shelter Facilitator and Co-organizer Don Orris says the fundraising efforts are nearing the halfway point.

The land for the facility has been donated by Greene County Development Corporation in their west business park, located south of American Athletic Incorporated/Spaulding. Orris says the new facility would include dog kennels, cat condos, a dog park, and other amenities like an isolation room for stray animals or other animals picked up by law enforcement, which Orris points out isn’t in the current facility.

“When you bring an animal in you want to isolate it, keep it from spreading disease and anything else to the other animals that are already in there (and) that you’ve already treated. This facility is setup to accomplish all of those things.”

Another fundraiser is coming up September 7th. It is the Amazing Race for Charity and all proceeds will benefit the animal shelter project. Donations are still being accepted and can be made at Jefferson City Hall. To view a video of the facility and to learn more information about the project, click the links below.
