The Grand Junction Sesquicentennial kicks off today with several activities.
It begins with the Greene County Historical Society program at 12:45pm with a look at the past and present movie theaters in the county. The program takes place at the Grand Junction Community Room and is free and open to the public.
Kids of all ages can then enjoy carnival rides on Main Street in the afternoon. Tickets are $1 each. A performance by “Off the Track Players” will be at 5pm in the community center, followed by an ice cream social at 6. The day wraps up with live musical entertainment. Through the Darkness will perform in the beverage garden east of the community center from 7-10:30pm, with the beverage garden open from 4pm-midnight. GJ 150 Committee member Alan Robinson talks about the musical act.

“These are the Gathercoal brothers (Kristopher, Andrew and Tyler) who grew up in Grand Junction (and) graduated from East Greene (School District). They all work locally in the area and I think they have a few band members like from between here and Des Moines. And they’ve performed quite a bit around the area. They’ve got a good following.”
Admission for the concert is $5 per person. Plus Raccoon Valley Radio’s Lil’ Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live tomorrow from 9am-1pm. To see a list of the other activities, click the link below.
