An update on hunting activity at Lake Panorama.
Association General Manager John Rutledge reminds members that hunter vehicles must be identified with LPA supplied window information and hunting stands need to be identified with the owner’s name and contact information. Only LPA members and their guests are allowed to hunt in designated areas.
Rutledge says hunting at the lake is used to maintain a herd population that is both healthy for the deer and for residents. To this point in the season, that herd maintenance is going well.
“The bulk of our hunting occurs between October 1st and the end of the year, and we have seen some active harvesting of antlerless deer already and we hope to hit our number at around the 150 mark if not closer to 200,” Rutledge says.
Rutledge estimates that 140 antlerless deer were removed from the Association last year. He says that many of the deer taken are donated to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and their HUSH program. HUSH stands for Hunters United to Stop Hunger, and donated deer meat is provided to charity groups and food banks across Iowa.
Hunters interested in donating deer to HUSH should call their local number at 641-757-0238.
