A 4-6 overall record isn’t anywhere close to what ADM head coach Mike Whisner was anticipating when he entered this season, but make no mistake, he still likes where his football program stands.
Despite ending the year on a four game slide, the Tigers qualified for the district playoffs for the sixth consecutive season and put forth a valiant effort in their first-round loss to Carroll last week.
ADM is just two years removed from playing in the dome where the Tigers lost in the state semifinals, and to get back to that level of play, Whisner says his returning players from each grade level will need to find ways to be active in the offseason.
“We want our kids in this size school to be in multiple sports, and when the summer gets here, it really helps us if we have kids be involved in 7-on-7 and do those types of things because even though they’re little things, the more times you touch the ball the better you’re going to be at. It’s still high school football so you don’t coach them all year long, you want them to be in other sports but that’s always a big thing, and I think just keep working towards getting better.”
Whisner believes that the future is bright at ADM, especially given the high-quality play that was seen at the JV and freshman levels this season. The JV squad finished the year 7-1 while the young freshman finished 6-3.
Players from both levels will have many opportunities to be major contributors next season for the Tigers, as Whisner says his 20 seniors make up the biggest departing class he’s had in his 20 plus years as coach.
