Practices are underway for the Greene County High School basketball teams. The Rams are off until traveling to Nevada in one week for a Jan. 7 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader at Nevada. The Rams are 0-7 in girls’ basketball and 1-6 on the boys’ side. Neither team has won a conference game.
Activities Director Todd Gordon, a former basketball coach himself, was asked to comment about Greene County basketball. “We’re obviously not where we want to be. We’ve got to get better, and we’ve got to do some things to get better. We’re responsible for coaching aspect of that and the administrative side of that, and what we do for our kids in that respect. I think it’s a three-pronged attack. We’ve got our side- the school side. We’ve got to get our kids doing some different things, in the off-season in particular. And then our community. We’ve got a great community that shows support. We’ve got to come together in some areas and do some things, and I’m working on some ideas to try and promote that a little bit.”
Gordon added that in his first year here, he’s not only standing back a bit and observing, but also thinking of things that can be done near-term. “There are things we’ll have to do moving forward to get better,” he added.
Coverage of the Rams and Cubs from Nevada starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow. The action can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
