In conjunction with the annual International Women’s Day Coffee at La Poste in Perry tomorrow, the Iowa 19th Amendment Centennial Committee will premier a documentary on a notable Iowan involved in the women’s suffrage movement.

Committee member Becky Greenwald says they worked with Iowa Public Television to produce a documentary on Charles City native Carrie Chapman Catt, a well-known suffragette from the early 20th century. “A lot of people don’t know the history, and some very significant women in Iowa were part of that. And the most significant one is Carrie Chapman Catt. She did so much. She started the League of Women Voters 100 years ago on February 14th, and that’s when we kicked off the celebration in honor of her, being an Iowan. And you just kind of learn about all this work that an Iowa woman, Carrie Chapman Catt, did to allow us to have the opportunity to vote.”

The film will be shown tomorrow at around 1:30 p.m. in the gallery of La Poste. However, the public is encouraged to attend the entire Perry Women’s Day celebration, which starts at 10 a.m. and includes a meal. The morning presentation, luncheon, and documentary screening are all free to attend and open to men and women.
