Class 3A number eight North Polk rolled to a doubleheader high school softball sweep over Greene County in Alleman on Monday night, by scores of 15-0 and 10-1. The Comets improved to 13-2 on the season and clinched at least a tie for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference title. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams fell to 2-9 overall and in the conference.

Nine of the 15 NP runs in game one were earned off freshman pitcher Emma Hoyle. The Rams were out hit nine to two and they were charged with nine errors. A seven run first put the Comets in comfortable position. They added two runs in both the third and fourth, and four runs in the fifth. The game ended after five by the 10-run rule. Carmyn Paup and Kyla Beyers each had singles for the Rams.

Game two saw NP scored 10 runs, five earned, off eighth grader Kaylee Stalder. Again, Greene County had just two hits, both singles, with Beyers and Emma Stream hitting safely. The Comets totaled eight hits and the Rams had nine errors. Stream scored the lone Greene County run and senior Tieryn Tucker drove her in.

The Rams host PCM Wednesday at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway with KGRA broadcasting and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com streaming. Coverage begins around 7 p.m.
