Guthrie Center’s Main Street Iowa application has officially been turned in to the Iowa Economic Development Authority in Des Moines.
Revitalization President Ken Laughery tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Guthrie Center became the first town in Iowa to submit its application for the Main Street program this year when it was handed in yesterday.
Laughery says the final pledge amount over the requisite three-year term ended up totaling just over $250,000, or about triple what the pledge funding goal was set at initially. Revitalization set the desired pledge amount at $30,000 a year over three years, and Laughery says the community support in going above and beyond has been “overwhelming and outstanding.”
He also says much credit for completing the application early goes to Revitalization’s Marian McQuaid, Nancy Van Meter and Ruth Owens, and he thanks them for their tireless work.
With the application now complete, Laughery says the real work is “just getting started,” and the next order of business will be Revitalization’s community presentation to the IEDA on January 16th. The group presenting that day will be led by Debbie Menning.
Guthrie Center will then get an answer from the IEDA regarding its Main Street application sometime in mid-February.
