Iowans are used to extreme changes in weather at a moments notice, and this week has certainly been one of those times.
According to the National Weather Service, Jefferson saw a near-record high temperature on Sunday of 93-degrees and then by Wednesday and Thursday, there were record low temperatures of 44-degrees. Weatherology Meteorologist Emily Chipman tells Raccoon Valley Radio what led to the drastic change in temperatures.
“So we had an overall strong area of low pressure coming in out of Canada and that created a big old trough of low pressure. And that really brought in some really unseasonably cold air for this time of year, more than we were kind of expecting. And it ended up drastically dropping those temperatures within a span of those couple of days.”
However, Chipman expects temperatures to keep driving back up to the average daytime highs of low to mid-70s for the next few weeks.
