Greene County played Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball last night in Story City vs. Class 3A number 11 Roland-Story with the Norsemen winning in three sets. Scores were 12-25, 23-25, 12-25. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference and the loss was the third in a row. The Rams have yet to play at home due to the new high school gymnasium not being ready for competition.

The first set saw the Rams lead 6-3 before R-S scored eight of the next nine to points to go ahead, and they stayed ahead. Set two was close with Greene County up 14-11, then down 20-23. The Rams scored three straight to tie the set, including back-to-back ace serves by senior Lily Muir. After it was 23-23, R-S scored the final two points to win the set. The final set saw the Norsemen score eight points in a row to lead 13-5 and they went on from there.

Sophomore Emma Hoyle had a pair of ace serves with the Heupel twins, Katrina and Natalie, each recording one ace serve. Service errors by the Rams were an issue at times, along with serve reception.

Greene County plays tomorrow in the South Hardin tournament in Hubbard at the SH middle school.
