Heads up for parents and guardians in the Greene County School District, there are some upcoming dates that students will not be in school.
Superintendent Tim Christensen says this Friday there will not be school for high school students, while elementary and middle school students will have school as usual. Then on October 9th and the 23rd, all students will be in school just for the morning. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that during these times when students are not in school, teachers are expected to do more training about providing remote learning opportunities for students.
“That would provide time for teachers to connect with remote learners and do some of the work that again is new work this year that they’re having some challenges with, and just let them wrap their minds around with that, and let them connect with remote learners.”
Christensen points out that in these difficult times with COVID-19 changing how education is being delivered, he appreciates all District staff for their work.
“All the work that they’ve put in to prepare for the school year (with) a ton of time and hard work and everything. And it is going to be a day-to-day (situation) and I hope people understand that we’re doing our best to try to protect kids, protect staff, protect community, and do the best that we can, and provide education to everybody. We’re working as hard as we can and again I appreciate all the work that everybody is doing on that. (I) appreciate all the support from the community and all the work that they’re doing because they’re doing a lot of hard work too. We’re all in this together and hope that we can work together and do the best that we can.”
Christensen reminds everyone that the District is no longer having early Wednesday dismissals like what has happened in the past.
