Stuart and surrounding residents can help celebrate Fire Prevention Week by showing off their firefighter skills at an event this Sunday.

The Stuart Fire Department is hosting a water fight competition at noon on North Main Street near the elementary school. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with women facing off and men to follow. Food and drinks will be provided and awards will be presented. Fire Prevention Week lasts from October 4-10 and this year’s theme is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen,” as cooking is the number one cause of home fires and home fire injuries, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
