The Perry Police Department is offering a service to help protect your bikes from theft.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn tells Raccoon Valley Radio residents can register their bike with the police department, which can help recover a stolen bike, “We provide free registration for bicycles. So if you bring your bicycle down, we’ll have you fill out a little sheet, give the description of your bike, the make and model, and the serial number is the big thing because there are so many bikes out there and they’re so mass-produced. We encourage people when they get a bike to record that serial number in some way, so bring it down, and we’ll be happy to register your bike for free.”

Vaughn adds that this should not be the only measure bike owners take to protect their property. He recommends always storing your bike in a secure location and to use a bike lock when leaving it unattended. Adding unique physical characteristics and decorations can also aid law enforcement in finding a stolen bike.
