Greene County lost more volleyball matches this season than it won, but Activities Director Todd Gordon said he saw a renewed competitive spirit from the Rams, especially late in the season. “I think we’re taking a little bit more pride in how we compete. It’s important to be out, but we don’t want to treat it like something that doesn’t matter. It matters, and I was just so proud, especially in that regional opening round with Southeast Valley (Gowrie), to see them compete so hard. To see them be so resilient because it went to that fifth game, and we’ve seen some third and fifth game matches where we haven’t quite stepped up to that challenge.”
He added, “To see the girls really compete in a tight fifth game, not just a blowout fifth game, and then to see the joy when that final ball hits the floor and they win, that again makes everything worthwhile.”
Greene County ended its season in the Class 3A Region 2 semifinals with a loss in straight sets to eventual State Tournament qualifier Humboldt.
