As the pandemic continues, certain school activities have been limited, but one musical group is carrying on at Greene County High School.

The Jazzatonics, the high school jazz choir, recently started rehearsing and Director David Heupel says practices have gone well. He points out jazz choir is a good social distance activity since the number of participating students is limited, there’s no physical interaction and they are performing with masks on. However, he says the masks do create a barrier for the students.

“You can’t see facial expressions as well. We’ve all had the times where we try to talk to somebody else and they can’t quite understand what you said because it gets a little muffled, it’s the same thing (for jazz choir). I feel like there’s a little decay in the sound, it’s just a little hard to hear.”

Heupel says the group is working on three songs and as far as the competition season goes, Heupel notes nothing is definite due to the pandemic.
