Coach Zach Beekman’s Greene County High School wrestling team started 2021 on Tuesday night in Greenfield. The Rams are now 7-5 in dual meets after wrestling three times against non-conference opponents. The Rams won over host Nodaway Valley 43-12, won 39-24 vs. Martensdale-St. Mary’s, and lost to Woodward-Granger 39-36. Greene County forfeited five weights vs. W-G while collecting just one forfeit. Overall, of the 21 contested matches on the night, the Rams won 15 times including 12 by fall.
Rams going 3-0 on the night were undefeated McKinley Robbins, the top ranked Class 2A wrestler at 120 lbs., senior Brady Stauffer at 138 lbs., freshman Gavin Sheuermann at 145 lbs., freshman Michael Rumley at 220 lbs, and senior Sawyer Schiltz at 295. Jackson Turner at 132 lbs. and junior Nate Black at 152 bs. each were 2-1 and the loss for Black was his first this season. He fell 2-0 to W-G’s Dustin Harney in one of the featured matches of the night.
Greene County has two more dates on the calendar for this week. They go to Burnside on Thursday for a quadrangular with Audubon, Ogden, and host Southeast Valley. The Rams travel to Webster City for dual meets on Saturday.
