Last fall the Dallas County Conservation Board hosted a workshop that introduced the skills of starting a fire with a bow drill, next month a new program will teach participants more survival skills.
“We do want you to know what to do if you’re ever out and don’t have matches or dry matches or your handy-dandy lighter, what do you do? Well this last November we hosted a program using the skills to start a fire using a bow drill, well this year we’re going to continue that with how to build a bow drill” says museum curator Pete Malmberg.
Program participants will venture out at the Keuhn Conservation Area to find their own materials to build a bow drill. They will learn different tree species, how to read light and shadows, moisture and decay.
The workshop takes place Sunday, February 9th from 1-4pm. It’s free to participate but pre-registration is required. To reserve your spot call 465-3577.
