The Greene County Historical Society will be hosting a special event at the historical museum in Jefferson this weekend.
Liz Garst, business manager of Garst Family Farms in Coon Rapids, will be presenting a program of when her family’s farm hosted the former Premier of the Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev in 1959.
Her program, entitled “Peace Through Corn” will re-tell the events of Khrushchev visiting the local area farm to learn how farm practices could be utilized in his country during the Cold War.
It will be at 2:30pm this Sunday with popcorn and lemonade served.
GCHS Board member Chuck Offenburger says the free program is sponsored by Humanities of Iowa and the public is invited to check out other historical artifacts at the museum following the program.
