Since the announcement of Governor Terry Branstad’s Home Base Iowa Initiative of bringing military veterans to Iowa on November 12th, Greene County officials have been working to be the first county designated to be a Home Base Iowa community.

Economic Development Director Ken Paxton says work continues but that the governor will make his announcement shortly of what counties will be designated as Home Base Iowa communities.

The qualifications that were needed for the designation to have ten percent of the area businesses agreed to be Home Base Iowa Businesses, offering an incentive package for veterans, plans to proudly display the Home Base Iowa Community designation and have resolutions from local government bodies in support of the initiative which both the county supervisors and the Jefferson City Council approved.

Paxton comments that they will follow up with several articles to be printed in national veteran’s publications to promote Greene County as an area they can live and work in.
