West Central Valley Sophomore Kaedon Lindsay will participate in the Class 1A District 7 Tournament in the 152-pound bracket Saturday at Underwood High School.
Head coach Ben Strandberg says Lindsay will need to utilize his whole toolbox to come away with a trip to the state tournament.
“He has a tendency to get fixated on one move, a little bit of stubbornness that he wants to finish that move. He’ll hit it over and over where as he’s got a lot of tools. He can shoot to both legs, go different directions and if he opens up like that, he’s a really dangerous wrestler. That’s a big strength for him. The other thing is trusting in the preparation he’s put forward. He’s a hard worker, comes in every day and puts in the kind of time that we ask of him. Those are the things we’re looking for as a coaching staff in leaders and captains.”
Lindsay received a first-round bye at the Sectional Tournament last weekend in Atlantic. His first match went all three rounds, ending with a 6-1 decision over Aidan Martin of Avoca, Hancock, Shelby, Tennant and Walnut Schools. Lindsay scored a near fall in the second period.
In the first place match, the Wildcat sophomore took a 3-0 lead over Missouri Valley’s Ben Hansen over the first two rounds, but Hansen scored a takedown and reversal versus Lindsay’s escape to knot it up at 4-4 before pinning Lindsay in 5:19.
His final match of the night ended in a 12-3 major decision win over St. Albert Catholic’s Camren Mardesen that included a three-point near fall in the opening round.
Lindsay will face Mt. Ayr’s Jaydon Knight, who is undefeated at 38-0 this season, Hansen and East Mills’ Jack Gordon round out the 152-pound bracket in the District 7 Tournament.
