A free program in Jefferson will help those wanting to plant new trees.

Greene County ISU Extension is offering the “What Trees Should I Plant?” program Tuesday. Extension Director Lori Mannel says the program will be led by Trees Forever Coordinator and Jefferson resident Brad Riphagen, as he will cover what kinds of trees should be planted to replace those that were lost from last August’s derecho storm. Mannel talks about the local resource with Riphagen who agreed to help with this program.

“We are very fortunate. He’s very humble but we’re very fortunate to have Brad in our own community and he’s also on the Board of Directors of the Thomas Jefferson Gardens. He is very, very knowledgeable and he even does some help for us for when we have questions about trees in the community. So he’s a wonderful asset.”

The discussion will be from 10-11am and registration is required, due to social distancing guidelines at the Extension office in Jefferson. The program is co-sponsored by Greene County Extension and Thomas Jefferson Gardens. Contact the Extension office to sign up.
