A special event is taking place around the courthouse square in Jefferson.

Starting today and running for three weeks, the public is invited to brighten their winter blues by visiting the downtown square in Jefferson for Yarn-A-Plooza.

Organizer Amy Roberts with the Jefferson Tower View Team says all 20 trees around the Greene County Courthouse have been covered with yarn and other brightly-colored items as a way of showing public art around the square.

She comments that she wanted to do something during the winter time as a way to show public art like they did with the Play Me Pleaz Piano last summer and when they open Sally’s Alley this spring.

Roberts points out that each decorated tree is owned by a different individual or organization and each one is marked by who created it.  She says that this is not a fundraiser, but a chance for people’s creativity to be shown in the public light.

She is hoping to make Yarn-A-Palooza an annual event and possibly even expand in the future.

The decorations will be left up for three weeks.
