Dallas Center – Grimes boys soccer had a nine game winning streak coming into state soccer in Des Moines, and they were able to extend it to double figures after picking up a quarterfinal victory in state 2A soccer on Tuesday afternoon, winning 1-0 over Waverly – Shell Rock. Mustangs soccer improves to 17-3 on the season while Waverly – Shell Rock ends the season at 13-7.

Both teams played a scoreless first half, as both sides had opportunities but defense and goalkeeping were able to keep both sides at bay. The Mustangs were finally able to convert midday through the second half, as Kendall Bickford was able to bury a shot into the back of the net, helping the Mustangs advance to the next round and posting a shutout in the process.

For DCG, they move forward to the next round where they will take on the three seed in Bondurant-Farrar. This semifinal matchup will be played tomorrow at 2:40, as the Mustangs will look to advance to the finals. You can listen to the game on 997 and 1310 KDLS.
