This week’s precipitation did little to relieve the drought conditions in the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, all of Greene and Dallas counties, and the majority of Guthrie County are still under a severe drought. The southwestern corner of Guthrie County is in a moderate drought. About 50 counties are suffering from a severe drought, and only about 13 portions or entire counties are not in a drought, mostly in southeastern Iowa.

Since June 20th, the National Weather Service reports Perry has received 2.45-inches of rainfall, Jefferson had 1.84-inches of rainfall, and Guthrie Center saw 1.56-inches.
