For Guthrie County Clover Kids leader Amanda Bireline, getting members active and out-and-about in the community is one of her goals for 2014.
During the winter months, most Clover Kids’ meetings are held in Guthrie Center’s Farm Bureau Hall, but in January, more than 20 members had the chance to participate in a unique meeting at Zipp’s Pizzeria in Adair. Bireline explains…
“Jim and Tammy Zimmerline were gracious enough to welcome us into their restaurant and show us the ins-and-outs of owning and running a restaurant. The kids really enjoyed the opportunity to have that hands-on experience… an experience that some of them probably would never get otherwise.”
Bireline says Clover Kids has more “hands-on” meeting experiences planned in the months ahead, as she tries to get members away from the Farm Bureau Hall type of meetings as much as possible.
“In April, we’re partnering with Tyler Carney out of Adair to beautify the (Guthrie County) Fairgrounds. We’ve made it a county-wide project 4-H project and we’ve invited the older 4-H groups to join us at the Fairgrounds that day to do some landscaping, plant some trees. The more variety I can offer to the kids the closer I am to reaching my goal.”
