The Emergency Alert Severe Mobile  System, which started yesterday, will classify thunderstorms that are seen as destructive and will now send a Wireless Emergency Alert to your smartphone.

The criteria has been changed and will alert your phone when there is 2.75 inch diameter (baseball size) hail also if there are 80 mile per hour winds.

Adair and Guthrie County Deputy Emergency Director Jeremy Cooper gives the reason for change in the system.

“It is just like the tornado warnings when they’re talking about the extremely dangerous tags they are putting on the tornados they are doing with the severe thunderstorms now.”

Anytime there is severe weather in Greene, Dallas or Guthrie counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage of the storms. Live coverage continues until severe weather moves out of the area or drops below severe levels.
