During the recent summer Perry Farmers Market, alternative currency options were well received for purchasing local goods.
Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says going into the market they knew that currency options such as Double Up Food Bucks and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program would be carried over this year but the local food pantry also got involved.
“With the pantry jumping onboard, we really didn’t know what to expect as far as what that would look like. So, they were able to serve 297 households over the summer and that translated to $1,400 coming into the farmers market from those pantry customers.”
Pasutti tells Raccoon Valley Radio between the alternative currency options more than $2,000 came into the market. Pasutti shares her thoughts on that success.
“It was really fantastic to see some of those numbers, very significant I would say as far as the dollar amount and then you think about all of the people that were paying with cash on their own.”
Pasutti says the end of market survey is still available for people to give their feedback about the summer Perry Farmers Market.
