The Panorama Panthers volleyball team took on the IKM-Manning Wolves in Panorama for the Class 2A Region 3 first round game Monday night and came away with a victory that sends them on to the next round.
The Panthers went into last night’s matchup looking to come away with a victory that would send them onto the next round and came away victorious in a match that went the distance. The Panthers came away with a hard fought victory by a score of 3-2.
The Panthers took set one 25-18 then the Wolves came back winning set two 25-19. The Panthers fired back taking set three 25-16 but the Wolves answered again taking set four 25-18 to even the match out at two wins a piece.
The fifth and final set was a good one as head coach Joanne Sandage says at one point the Panthers trailed 14-11 in the final set but Tyme Boettcher contributed three timely aces to pull Panorama back into it and the Panthers would go on to take the final set by a score of 17-15.
On the night Jaidyn Sellers led the way with ten kills and Grace Webner had six, Jazmyn Sellers contributed four kills and Jasmarie Flanery and Tyme Boettcher each had three. For serving Mollie Monthei had six aces and Jazmyn Sellers, Tyme Boettcher, Grace Webner and Jaidyn Sellers all had three aces a piece.
Sandage says the strong blocking the Panthers have shown this season continued to be a factor against the Wolves Monday night and Sandage says she feels aggressive serving played an important part in coming out of round one victorious.
With the win Monday night the Panorama Panthers move on to the Class 2A Region 3 quarterfinals where they will face off against the Southwest Valley Timberwolves at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Southwest Valley High School in Corning.
