Multiple rural Dallas County volunteer fire departments recently received grant funding to aid in fighting wildfires. 

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources recently announced that 115 rural fire departments, including DeSoto and Minburn Fire Departments, who received funding through Volunteer Fire Assistance Grants which totalled more than $289,000, with a 50-percent cost share. 

DeSoto Fire and Rescue received $3,388 and the Minburn Fire Department received $200. The grants are to help fire departments protect Iowan’s and their properties from wildfires and are an important resource to help fund wildfire suppression, personal protection and communication equipment. 

The grants are through the Iowa DNR Forestry which works with the U.S. Forest Service- State and Private Forestry.
