The temperatures in south central Iowa could reach down into the single digits this week.

Emergency Management Coordinator for Adair and Guthrie Counties Bob Kempf says the colder the temperatures get the odds of getting frostbite or hypothermia become worse. He explains the number one thing to do in those situations.

For either one of those situations with hypothermia and the possibilities of it causing with your heart rate and then the damage of the skin with the frostbite, you want to seek medical attention right away.”

Kempf says in the case of hypothermia an individual will lose the ability to shiver and become dizzy and drowsy, then get that person into a warm area. He states never rub your skin in the case of frostbite.
