One local lawmaker agrees with the recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

The federal government was looking to implement a vaccine-or-test mandate for employers with more than 100 employees but the Supreme Court recently chose not to enforce the mandate. Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman shares his thoughts.

“The decision made by the Supreme Court was really a win for Iowa workers, it was a win for freedom and quite frankly it was a win for the (U.S.) Constitution. This overreach by the Biden Administration was unconstitutional from the beginning. It was such an overreach, it was a gross overreach, and I am extremely glad that we have a Supreme Court that upheld the Constitution and struck this down.”

Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio he feels the best way to approach the pandemic is to continue to let states do what they think is best for its citizens. Nordman believes a mandate such as what was proposed would make the workforce shortage worse.

“If you alienate a large group of people who choose not to get the vaccine you’re going to  continue to see struggling businesses not being able to find workers.”

Nordman says Iowa lawmakers will continue to look at this issue and a few bills have already been filed in the Iowa House addressing this topic.
