The Lake Panorama Association has made it official… the road embargo on lake streets will begin on Monday.
The embargo is expected to last through the rest of March, as this winter’s deep frost and frigid temperatures will likely cause a longer thawing period. Most years, the embargo lasts no more than two weeks.
LPA Administrative Assistant Randy Holl explains why such a road embargo exists each year.
“Most of the roads at Lake Panorama are sealcoat roads–they’re a chipseal product, a little bit of asphalt oil, and gravel is then put on the top a gravel road base or crushed rock road base. During the spring thaw period, just like the rural roads have issues, we have issues because as the thaw goes on it weakens the road base and it will no longer hold up with loads and then the sealcoat breaks through… that is very expensive to repair and get back into shape.”
Holl says members will be held responsible for damages caused by contractors or delivery vehicles exceeding the 5-ton weight limit going to their address during the embargo.
Deliveries and loads can be distributed in lighter vehicles from the LPA’s Maintenance Shed or Guard Shack if necessary.
