While there have already been major bills signed into law so far this legislative session, one local lawmaker talks about other priorities.

Iowa State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says while there was tax reform that brought with it a 3.9-percent flat income tax rate and the elimination of taxes on retirement income, there are still important topics yet to be covered.

“My focus will continue to be to empower parents to make choices that’s best for their kids. One of the issues that still remains out there is school choice and empowering parents to make the choice that’s best for their kids where they want to send their kids to school.”

Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio he will continue to focus on breaking down barriers such as financial barriers to allow parents the freedom to send their kids to school where they feel is best.

“That’s one that still remains out there that I personally want to see get across the finish line. Look, we are having a very successful session. It will continue to be successful and I don’t think in the ten years I have been there, seeing such huge, monumental and historic pieces of legislation pass so quickly.”

Some of the legislation already passed this session includes the tax reform as well as the ban on transgendered females playing in female sports.
