Greene County softball won a marathon 14 inning Heart of Iowa Activities Conference contest by a 10-7 final in Perry on Monday night. . Junior pitcher Emma Hoyle threw more than 250 pitches en route to striking the Jayettes out a career best 24 times. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team improved to 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference while Perry fell to 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in the league.

Hoyle drove in the go ahead runs in the fourteenth with a two-run single. She also doubled twice to help propel the Rams to their third win in the last four games. Perry was down 2-0 , but tied the game in the fifth. Down 4-2 in the seventh, the Jayettes tied it again, this time at 4-4. A single run in the eighth by Greene County was met by another Perry run. It was 5-5 until the final frame when the Rams put five runs on the board and held Perry to just two runs. The Jayettes left 16 runners on base and the Rams left 10. Greene County had 13 hits and the Jayettes had 10. Emma Stream doubled twice for Greene County and Carmyn Paup doubled once.

The Rams are off tonight and they’ll have a HOIAC contest in Nevada tomorrow night.

Greene County and Perry baseball was postponed last night due to wet grounds. The teams will play a June 27 doubleheader in Jefferson.
