As fireworks tents begin to open their doors in the city limits of Perry, it’s important to remember the ordinance change that is in effect beginning this year.
The Perry City Council recently approved a change to the ordinance that no longer allows the use of consumer fireworks within city limits after numerous concerns and complaints were heard about last year’s Fourth of July celebration. City Administrator Sven Peterson talks about the change.
“This was passed right at the beginning of the new year that fireworks will not be allowed to be shot off within the city limits of Perry this year and following years. So, hoping for a little bit more controlled and enjoyable Fourth of July for the citizens this year.”
Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio despite residents not being able to use consumer fireworks, other displays will go on such as the Perry Chamber of Commerce during the Fourth of July this year. As is required by state law, residents can still purchase fireworks within city limits.
“You can still legally purchase fireworks within the city limits of Perry so there should be a few tents around town but you will not be able to set off consumer fireworks. Only professional displays that are permitted by (the) city council.”
