With the 4th of July holiday coming up, many people choose to celebrate with fireworks. However, setting off fireworks can impact those we don’t typically think about: our pets.
Dr. Christy Fields with Companion Veterinary Clinic of Greene County advises some ways to keep your dogs calm when fireworks are being shot off.
“If your dog needs some type of help from a professional, we offer some mild sedatives to help pets just stay a little calmer during the fireworks and try to just help them get through that without a lot of anxiety.”
Dr. Fields says some other ways to help your pet get through the holiday is by purchasing a thundershirt and keeping them at home with the windows and doors closed and locked. She points out you could also take the dog for a long walk before any fireworks are shot off to wear them out and it allows them to use the restroom outside before you bring them inside.
