Guthrie Center LibraryGuthrie Center’s Mary Barnett Library is hosting a special program tomorrow night, and Library Director Pat Sleister encourages all area residents to attend.

Bill Jamerson will be visiting the library to perform his “Dollar-A-Day Boys” program starting at 6pm.  The program tells the story of the Civilian Conservation Corps, or the CCC, of the 1930s, and Sleister says she’s excited to see something she’s heard great things about.

“(Jamerson) plays songs and sings with his guitar.  He also likes to have people bring memorabilia so he can talk about this particular period of history.  I have not heard him but everybody that has has just really enjoyed him, so I think it’s going to be a really fun evening.”

Jamerson has also produced a PBS film and a historical novel about the CCC.  And with his program visiting Guthrie Center, Sleister says there is actually a direct tie between the CCC and her town.

“They had a camp here where the men lived and they were paid a dollar a day.  And they later built Springbrook Park, and of course everybody knows about Springbrook Park, so that is our connection.”

Tomorrow evening’s event is free and open to the public.  Anyone with questions can contact the library at 641-747-8110.
