The City of DeSoto is focused on getting signage on a highly visible road.
Mayor of DeSoto Mitch Crozier says they are working with a professional grant writer to get funds to put a town sign that says “Welcome to DeSoto Crossroads of Possibilities,” to be placed on Highway US 169. Crozier says that many visitors travel past DeSoto and never realize they’re in a community.
“It’ll be a good deal, if we get it all done, because it will give people the impression or the reality that they’re in town, they’re in a community and not just driving down the road with a wide spot in it.”
Crozier says they would like to pair the signage with pedestrian crossing buttons and beacons on Guthrie Street and a sidewalk and trail at their intersection of Ash Street. Crozier says these projects will give residents easy access.
“DeSoto pretty much is moving town up here along the highway anyway as far as all the business. So, you know, just need to make it more visible and more appealing.”
The estimated project will cost around $158,000.
