The Panorama Trap Shooting Club is getting started this year, and has had a lot of student interest.

Head Coach Heather Isom says that last year the club only had ten students in the high school division, and that the club wasn’t able to take on middle schoolers at the time. After some February meetings, she tells Raccoon Valley Radio that there is much more interest this year after adding the middle school division.

“We had a student meeting about a week and a half ago. We were just trying to introduce it to the kids. We had 59 middle schoolers show up for that meeting, and then after that, we had the high school meeting and we had 25 students show up for that. We knew that not all of them were going to sign up. We ended up having 19 middle schoolers sign up, and nine high schoolers sign up.”

Isom mentions that they are the only school associated shooting club without going to larger areas, and that most of those teams are about an hour away. When asked if she thought other area schools might look for a sport sharing agreement after watching the team, she says she hopes so.

“If they could see that we do this, we do it well, we’ve got a lot of interest from kids that want to do it, maybe they tell their friends. Maybe other communities in our county or outlying counties go ‘Hey. That looks like a great idea. They’re making it work, I bet we can make it work too.’”

Isom adds that they have until March 20th to finish filling out their roster, and that she knows there are some more children interested in joining that haven’t signed up yet, so she’s expecting their numbers to go up in the coming weeks.
