The Iowa Legislature recently passed a bill that was signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds about who can use which bathrooms in public schools.
Iowa Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that the bill is fairly simple, which states that students, along with adults and anyone who visits a public school will need to use the restroom or locker room that matches their gender assigned at birth. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it also has a provision for those that may not feel comfortable using those facilities.
“No one is not going to be accommodated based on their gender identity. But those accommodations will also take into account the needs of biological boys and biological girls.”
Sinclair adds that for those uncomfortable with using the restroom or locker room that coincides with their birth gender, schools will need to provide an alternative so that all students can have peace of mind.
