The Perry City Council recently set a public hearing to address a dilapidated and dangerous structure.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says that they have identified a structure that is in the advanced stage of dilapidation located on 1726 2nd Street. Peterson explains that this property has been vacant and a nuisance for years and has gone through many tax sale owners. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this is a unique situation to get rid of this dilapidated building for the city but the Council believes its the right course of action.
“So we’ve never really done it in this fashion. You know, typically it’s something that we would have done if the building was already falling in. But this is more of a, you know, the structure is upright. It has some deficiencies, but it’s one of the ‘tools in our toolbox,’ we’ll call it, of helping get rid of some of these dilapidated homes.”
According to city code, the Council must hold a hearing and render a decision before staff can find the best option to demolish the structure. The public hearing is scheduled for May 15th at 6pm on the second floor of the Towncraft Building.
