The Dallas County Extension and Outreach Office has opened up for a popular program they have in May.

Their program called “Rain Barrel Workshop,” will take place from 6 to 7pm on May 23rd at the extension office in Adel. Extension Regional Director Ann Torbert says that attendees will learn about water quality issues that can arise in a neighborhood and then they will build a rain barrel that will help reduce flooding and storm population on a property. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this is a good way to reduce waste in a household.

“The purpose of the rain barrel workshop is that you’re going to leave with a rain barrel so that you can collect rainwater from the roof of your home and use that water on primarily flowers and trees. You don’t want to put it on vegetables, so it’s trying to help you conserve water that you already have accessible.”

Those looking to attend must pre register because space is limited, and the cost will be $60. All materials will be provided at this program. For more information and to register please click here.
