Iowa Department of Natural Resources Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan is inviting a fun group for children to Guthrie County.
The Iowa Young Birders (IAYB) will be making a field trip from 9-11:30am to Springbrook State Park on May 20th. This is an organization that is designed to help youth from the ages of eight to eighteen learn from experienced birders and educators, and offer field trips throughout the state. The IAYB does this to help promote engagement with nature and conservation issues by helping young Iowans study and enjoy birds.
The field trip is designed to find the last migrant birds of spring, along with appreciating the local species. According to Riordan, May 20th often marks peak warbler activity, with species like the Connecticut, Mourning and Canada Warblers filling the woods with their singing. The children, IAYB and Riordan will search the park for different species of birds, and learn about the breeding strategies of different species.
The event is free to attend, but registration in advance is required. To register or find more information, visit the sites listed below.
