master-conservationist

A new program is starting up in Greene County that will give people certification about different conservation practices.

The Master Conservationist Program is a partnership between Greene County ISU Extension and the Greene County Conservation Board. County Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are five sessions that start July 25th and end September 5th. He says participants will learn about land and water conservation, as well as about geology and the different types of landforms there are in Greene County. They will also look at forest areas and wetlands and walk through some of the practical conservation programs for participants to consider for their land.

Scheuermann talks about another perk for people to take the program.

“We partnered with Pheasants Forever and they’re going to give participants who graduate the course a little incentive at the end of the course to put one of these (conservation) practices into play on their lands. They’ll just get a little bit more on top of what the program will offer for that as well.”

Graduates will also receive a certificate that shows they are a Master Conservationist. The early bird registration ends tomorrow with a $50 fee, then it is $75 after June 1st until the final registration deadline of July 7th.
