Recently, the Greene County High School girls basketball team donated $1,500 to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation.
Head Coach Chad Morton says the money they raised usually goes to cancer research and some of the proceeds from their fundraiser was selected by the team to stay here in Greene County.
He states that they raised money through selling their pink-out t-shirts, team posters, ram cards, pastries and collecting money at every home game by passing a bucket around the crowd. They also auctioned off an team autographed basketball of both the girls and boys to raise additional funds.
Coach Morton points out that the girls choose where the money goes and he believes it’s important for his players to know about the effects they can have both on and off the court. He comments that as the years go by, the girls will remember doing things like this more than the wins and losses they had in a season.
