Greene County High School junior Noah Hinote was on familiar footing when he made a late charge to the lead and won the high school boys’ five kilometers (3.1 miles) race on Saturday at the Greene County Coed Cross-Country Invitational. The event was held on the middle school grounds in Jefferson and the races finished on the Linduska Field track, which Hinote has run on many times as a member of the Rams’ track & field squad.

It hasn’t been common for Greene County runners to win cross-country races in recent seasons, but head coach Jeff Lamoureux is hoping that becomes more commonplace with Hinote, who is a junior, third place finisher Brady Carstensen, a freshman, and junior Gavyn Winters, who was fourth on Saturday, leading the way. Sophomore Carter Hinote and senior Kolby Angell were 10th and 11th, respectively, on Saturday,

The Greene County boys also came out on top of the four team field, which also had IKM-Manning, Southeast Valley (Gowrie), and West Central Valley (Stuart). The Rams only had four female runners, one short of competing for a team score.

The Rams will run on Thursday at the Panorama Invitational in Panora. There’s a new course this year that starts and ends at Panorama High School.
