It may be the preseason for the Perry wrestling team, but the preparations haven’t stopped when it comes to preparing for this upcoming season. A lot of those preparations come with what the Perry wrestling team calls the “coop” which is a training facility that the team uses during the offseason. The “Coop” is located right by the Accujet in Perry, across the street from Pattee Park. Perry Wrestling head coach Chris Dardanes talked about the benefits of the having a facility like the “Coop” as well as things that they are adding to it before the season.
“We got some more weights. We got some more machines. We kind of got a little bit of plastic on the walls. We got a little plywood. It’s about done but the more mat space, the better off it is. We started off in a dusty chicken coop and now we had some committed parents to help build this place, I helped along the way too. We got a high school room. We are trying to get some more mat space in the high school again too. I know there’s some storage space that we can throw some mats in. That’s the whole idea to get a much mat space in this town as possible,” said Dardanes.
The wrestling season doesn’t begin for a few months still, but it is certainly nice to have a facility like the “coop” to begin to prepare for the upcoming year.
